2007 Rowing Events

Wednesday Community Rowing, 6pm – dusk:  4/25, 5/9, 5/23, 6/6, 6/20, 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/8, 8/22, 9/5, 9/19. Come-one, Come-all, we have the life vests, the instructors, and the boats. Bring yourself, and enthusiasm for learning more about rowing in our gorgeous part of the estuary!

Saturday 9/29, National Estuary Day, Community Rowing, Go-Fish, and interactive science activities, 11 am till 4 pm, East 96th Street and the River. Come-one-come all!

RSVP community rows - times to be determined pending favorable tides / currents to events at the destination. Check here for updates.

Saturday 5/5/07, ERC Cinco de Mayo Row to the Bronx River Flotilla – meet E. 96th St. at 8:30AM, row 5 nautical miles to the Flotilla’s picnic on the Bronx River, take event visitors rowing in the Whitehall gigs, begin the return row at 2:30 pm, and finish cleanup by 5:00.

Sunday 6/10/07, Gantry State Park Row to the Friends of the Park's 9th Birthday breakfast celebration in Long Island City. Meet at 9:00 am, land in Annable Basin, walk several blocks to the Gantries event then begin the return to E. 96th when the 12:15 pm current turns.

Saturday 6/30/07, Trading Non Pareil for Eight Plus - rowers coming around Manhattan from Pier 40 will stop over between 10 and 11 am, and trade the two boats. This is a practice row for the FISA event below.

Saturday morning 7/28 8 - 9:30 am, ERC Event to Cheer the FISA Rowers, (non-rowing), E. 96th St., plus Rows before and afterward to deploy and return our boats.

Saturday 8/18/07, Noon - 5 pm, A Bird Watching Row to Mill Rock,the Brother Islands, and Barretto Point Park. Sandra Koponen narrates a leisurely row near three nature preserve islands in the East River, then on to Barretto Point Park. RSVP to mnhawk@eastrivercrew.org

Sundays 9/16 and 9/23, meet at 9:30 am, depart at 10:00, Row to Socrates Sculpture Park, Queens, for Tai Chi, and return by 2pm. No charge for rowing or Tai Chi. The Tai Chi class (11 am till noon) is led by Aaron Kirtz. See http://www.socratessculpturepark.org

Saturday 10/13, End of Season Benefit Party – Outdoor Patio at Reif's Tavern, 302 E. 92nd St. NYC.

East River C.R.E.W. is a nonprofit organization that promotes the stewardship of the East River waterways through educational and recreational activities.  By engaging the community in on-going waterfront activities, East River C.R.E.W. aim to impart a love for and an understanding of the East River and its communities, preserving the river for generations to come.
